The concert is finally over ! Now we can finally get our well deserve break :B We will truly miss our beloved ALUMNI'S that came back and perform alongside with us,love you guys! I would also like to thank all the Mayflower and Hua Yi band members for taking their time and effort to come help us up! We would also like to thank MR TAN for sticking with us,eventhough we have let him down many times,LOVE YOU! And lastly,CHR BAND ! Without you guys,the concert would not have been a success <3 (ironicly,yesterday was thanksgiving :D)

Hi guys! The concert is coming up soon! There are some changes to the schedule, so do take note. It's shorter on Monday, 22nd Nov, from 8am to 12.30pm. And 23rd Nov is slightly longer, 8am to 6pm. For the attire, please get the shoes and the uniform neatly ironed if needed and bring it on Tuesday.

As many of you know,band has already started after the long break :) Its time to pick up the pace and start practicing for the upcoming CONCERT ! ; MUSICAL MOMENTS !

We have around 2 more weeks of intensive practice until the actual concert ! Not much time people,practice hard okay ! Be prepared for the long hours of band practices,it will be tiresome,but we must all preservere and endure those hard trainings so that we can perform our very best not only for the school,but for everyone else ! You wont want to dissapoint people right ? So yeah!

Please ensure full attendance and please produce an MC if you are sick,tell the teachers in charge if you have any valid reason whatsoever if you cant attend band practice ! Read your band schedule to refer for the dates !

The June Band Camp is a 2 days one night camp on the Monday 7th June - Tuesday 8th June. Members are to report at 8am on Monday and will be dismissed at 5pm on Tuesday. It is optional for the Sec 4s to attend the camp.
All members are to wear P.E attire on Monday.

Items to bring:
T-shirts (Band Tee/ School T-shirts)
Shorts/Pants
Hat/Cap (Optional)
Socks
Shoes (Can be sports shoes)
Sandals/Slippers (Shower-for convenience)
Water bottle
Torch
Undergarments
Toiletries (Towel, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo and etc)

about tomorrow's rehearsal, i think the announcement will be made by the teacher during the morning assembly... if the upper sec. students have classes that will end around four or after three, i think u guys can still be excused but if its science spa then i think its not quite possible is it... anyways, the teacher will or would have to inform u during morning assembly...
sorry i do not have any info about this activity... oh ya, for the classes which are released as per normal, pls proceed to the AVA room at 3pm sharp... BE PUNCTUAL or punishments will be given(duh)...

Hey band!

I am here to update the band blog on the behalf of your majors since they are too busy.

Just a reminder about tomorrow practise if you still in your dreamland without knowing what will be happening tomorrow. Haha

Tomorrow you will be having your normal band practise and secondary one recruitment.

Band practise will be from 8am-11am and Secondary one recruitment is from 11am - 1pm(about there).

Attire: Full band uniform( All committee members)

Band tee( New / Rest of the members)

For committee members may ask to be release 10 minutes early to change up.

SLs please remind your members to come tomorrow.

You will not wish to see the band to coming smaller and smaller right?

Work hard on your attendance and your playing.

Maybe yesterday band practise just resume so you are not totally warm up yet.

Please there is no more time for you to waste.

Work hard!!!

All of you can play better than this as a BAND.

Band practices will be resume this Thursday(7th Jan) at 2.30PM.

Please be punctual!!!

For Secondary 4 that will be going for Singapore Poly open house will be excuse for Thursday practice.

Also an add-on for those should are MC on the day itself please inform Melissa or Aisyah that you are unable to come because you are sick.

For Saturday band will start at 8am as per normal and end at 11am because there is an choosing of CCA program for the Secondary 1 students.

Any other programs detail will be update slowly.

So please keep yourself updated with the band blog.

I think that's just sympathy marks from the judges. If you guys don't shape up, the band will always be a lousy one. You won't deserve any respect from other CCAs, teacher, students and even the principal.
I know it's just the first day of school but preparing and maintaining a band is on-going every time!!!
Don't give excuses that SYF is still a year ahead and blah blah blah.

Musicians don't do last
minute work!

Youth Mediation Week: Sing/Cheer Competition

The Ministry of Law’s Community Mediation Centre (CMC) will be organizing its ‘Youth Mediation Week 2009’ from 7 to 8 September 2009 to promote awareness of conflict resolution and spread the message that youths should ‘Talk-It-Out’ to resolve their conflicts. With the theme ‘Talk It Out!’, students will learn about mediation through an exciting array of activities, which include a Debate Challenge, a Sing/Cheer Competition and the Youth Mediation Forum. These activities would be excellent opportunities for your students to gain co-curricular experience and to showcase your school’s talents.

Twist & Shout Sing & Cheer Competition

In conjunction with the Youth Mediation week, CMC will be organising a Sing/ Cheer Competition where students can cheer, dance and sing their way to the competition. Participating teams must create original lyrics to a cheer based on the theme of ‘Conflict Resolution’ in a school environment, spreading to youths the key message ‘Talk-It-Out’ to resolve conflicts or quarrels. Entries must be original works by the participants. While the competition is open to all CCAs and other student groups (formal/informal), we thought that this competition would be of particular interest for the students in the Dance, Cheerleading and Band Clubs.

Finals of the Sing & Cheer Competition: Monday, 7 September 2009
Venue: NTUC Centre
Registration period: 22 June - 24 July 2009
Prizes: 1st Prize: $1,000 cash and a plaque

''A Midsummer's Evening''

As part of the Singapore Youth Festival 2009 celebrations, the Singapore National Youth Orchestra presents "A Midsummer's Evening" on Monday 13 July 2009 at 7.30 pm at the Esplanade Concert Hall.

15-year old SNYO violinist, Davin Ang Kai Jie, performs Violin Concerto No. 2, Op. 22 in D minor by Henri Wieniawski. This concert will also premiere "Summer Rhapsody" an SNYO Commissioned Work by Phoon Yew Tien.

The concert programme conducted by Lim Soon Lee will also include Johannes Brahms' Symphony No. 4 in E minor, Op. 98.

I know some of you are concern about the matter.

I know the band has improved and you all want to improve further.
The thing is, when you are in school, your academic comes first.
Though this year is SYF year, but SYF is over.
So teachers and the school would like performing arts students to concentrate on studies and catch up with other fellow school mates.
Yes, teachers do say words like "If you don't improve in your academic, we will have to pull you out from band."
Have you ever wondered that why teachers say that?
And do you think that teachers really want their members to get kick out?

The fact that teacher say that is to tell you that academic comes first.
When you graduate from this school, people would be looking at how many 'A's did you score and not how active you are in your CCA.

Imagine that you are the principal of a school.
Eveybody is not performing well in academic and average in CCAs.
Where would you want to improve the school first? Academic or CCAs.
Of course it would be the academic part.
And this is what happening in CHR right now.
And of course if the school is performing well, CCAs would also be well.
Good academic results would bring you further.

I'm not trying to say academic results is everything.
But you concentrate different things at different situations.
When it's SYF period, of course you concentrate on Band.
But when SYF is over, you should be concentrating on your academic.

All of you will be taking your 'O' level sooner or later.
The teachers would of course want you to graduate with good academic results and good CCA achievements.
It's good that you participate in Band and practice your instruments regularly, but please do take note that academic is also very important.

Mr Tan would also want us to have not only have better skills on instrumentation, also with good results to graduate from Christ Church to bring band in to another level when you are out in to the real world.
So I urge everybody to study hard when it comes to academic and play hard when it comes to band.

Another thing, our band really has no more money to function well, so please don't keep asking for more band practice with Mr Tan, we are already trying all sorts of way to squeeze in Mr Tan but please don't complain that time spent with Mr Tan is very little.

Band camp is coming. So let's be happy about it and enjoy the camp.
And those who have not pay the band camp money or the band tee money please pay everything by 11/06/09.

The Band Directors' Association Singapore (BDAS) is pleased to announce its plans to start off a national concert band, which will be named the National Youth Winds (NYW), consisting of school concert band members from around Singapore.

To join, BDAS will be conducting auditions on 23rd and 24th May 2009. An acknowledgement letter will be mailed to applicant with the exact details (confirmed time and venue) of the audition.

To mark the debut of the NYW, selected applicants will also be performing together under the baton of Mr. Jan Van der Roost on 20th June 2009, 7pm at the Singapore Conference Hall.

1. Criteria for the Audition:
- Ages 15 - 25
- More than three years experience playing an instrument
- Choice piece (Own selection by applicant)
- Sight Reading Piece (To be chosen by BDAS Committee)
-Major scales up to four (4) flats and four (4) sharps

2. Proposed Rehearsal Dates (Concert):
- May 30th, May 31st
- 5th to 7th June, 12th June, 13th June
- 17th to 19th June (Rehearsal with Mr. Jan Van der Roost)

3. Venue for Rehearsal
- Singapore Wind Symphony Bandroom situated at Ulu Pandan Community Centre
- Percussion Instruments will be provided

Let me check with teacher again if this camp is organise by sec2s and sec3s together or we have another special stuff.
Saw the sec2s and 3s planning the band camp.
Though I did not see you all planning the first part, but I heard some of you said that you all went for planning session on the 4th floor. I'm glad that all of you really start to plan some stuff and hope this camp will be a good one.

Sec2s, when planning for this camp, I really need you all to concentrate on let your ideas flow while planning the band camp. If you have ideas, speak up and share with everybody. And please follow Joycelyn and Kai Lee closely on how you are going about to plan this camp. Please RESPECT both of them.

I will hold another meeting soon to further discuss the games.

I saw the effort in you guys when planning for the camp since last year. (That band camp proposal came out last year and me and Keng Yip actually said okay.) But what I want from you guys is the get together effort in planning the band camp because like this, all of you would really work together as a team in playing music, doing stuff together. And may the bonding between members really last long.
I really thank you guys for making such an effort and I hope more will come out from you guys.

I know some of you always like to twist people's words and make it into a big story.
What I want to say is, Open up your mind and you will know what people said is for your own good.

Today's band practice a bit disappointed to me...
After a long break and all of you go crazy.
Come on guys, all of you have a few more years to go.

First, I would like to appreciate the sec 2s and 3s for putting in effort for teaching the sec 1s. Like Esha, Amelia, Grace.
Sec 3s we have Christine, Jonathan (Though you run half way saying that sec2s can teach. No No.), Zephyra, Syarmin and Nicole.
Those names I didn't name, either you were too shy, no juniors or are a junior yourself.
It's okay.
You will have your chance. Or just open up your mind. Be friendly.. Haha. :D

Second. I'm not quite happy with today. Because all of you act as if you are primary 6s. Worse than sec1s. (Before and after sectionals)
All of you only behave like sec 2s and 3s when all of you are having sectionals.
It's all the same old stuff. Just take note okay?

2a) Joycelyn and Kai Lee tried very hard today to please my demands of them. Though still not up to what I expect, but you've done your best. And this is just the beginning. There's still a long way to go. Hang on. Remember what you promise Miss Aisah.

Third. I know some of you don't like the seniors for some reason. Some is just plainly don't like.
Some might be because the seniors said something that you don't like and made you sad.
Whatever it is, tell the seniors straight. We will accept all your complains and will try to make amends for it. So all of you have anything you want to say, just say.

There will be a final rehearsal for the speech day tomorrow.
Sec 1s and 2s please meet outside AVA room and prepare to set up.
The door will open at 1pm.

Please go in and do the followings:
1. Put down ur bags in one corner with ur uniform at the side.
2. Set up ur instruments. Take one music stand(Don't set up).
3. Put your instrument at one corner of ur room.
4. All of you go to the hall and look for Uncle Khrisna.
5. Set up chairs down at the parade square.
6. At around 2.15pm, we will go down to the parade square and warm up.
7. Woodwinds will go down (first), put their instruments and come up to help the percussions.

Band I wish all have read the post Yean Lin type below.
I think that I very important for you to make the effort to train and practice by ourself.
We do not wish to let people to laugh at us right?
I know is hard for us.
But we are going to play in 24 days time.
As you know what Mr Tan say"If you are unable to play properly on that day.You can just do not need to join in the band to play on that day. Even we are left with 10 people!!!"
So please make your effort.

Trumpet section please do not just bring your instrument back without pratice with it.
I know the instrument is very noise.
So can you at least buzz with your mouthpiece?
I am doing that everyday.
I think it is working.
Can now play with my mouthpiece even it is not in tune but I can get it.
So please make you effort with it.
You are doing all this for yourself and for the school.
Even you do not like the song just treat it as you do it for yourself please.

Are You Game For It?

Read only if you can take it on what I say. Highlight the words.
Are you ready for the national day parade?

Have you practice the anthem for the past few days?

Have you reflect on the attitude you gave the teachers and seniors?

This is all for your own good.

Take the national anthem as example;

If you did not put in your effort to play well, and on the day itself you screw up the whole anthem.

First thing, do you feel bad, you might not feel pai seh.

But the shame you are bringing is to the whole band and the teachers.

The shame you bring to the band is greater than what you expect.

Think.

If you screw up, not only you are bringing shame to the members, it's unfair for those people who put in their effort and play well for our national anthem.

You will be laugh by your friends saying band is useless and stupid.

What is this?

The sec 1s might don't know about it.

But I'm sure the sec 3s and 2s understand how it feels when we got COP for last year.

You really don't even know what it's feel to get mocked by your firends and friends from chinese orchestra.

Second thing.

The song that you play is your national anthem.

It's your national anthem.

As Singaporeans, don't you think it's a shame of not playing well and you have people from other country trying to play well?

If you are not proud to be a Singaporean, I suggest you ask your father or mother to give up your citizenship and go some where else.

Be glad that we do not have teacher in charge from chinese orchestra.

Don't know how to play, just tell us.

I believed that Miss Aisah has asked the flute and clarinet section to come and report.

But today, only a few of you turned up.

That was so disappointing.

By not showing up means you have something to hide.

If you know how to play, why not you just report and play infront of teacher?

Or should I say,

if you don't know how to play, have you stay at home take out your instrument and practice.

Don't tell me it's night time and you can't play.

You can practice your fingerings with your instrument.

Nobody ask you to play.

As long as you got your timing and fingerings right, your note will come out automatically.

For brasses, buzzing your mouthpiece WON'T affect the whole neighbourhood.

Practice well and even you still can't get the note correct, by trying to practice, you won't have a feeling that you are guilty.

Because you tried YOUR BEST.

Why don't you just reflect what happened.

Note for all clarinet and flute members.

This is the second chance.

Bring your instrument to school tomorrow and report to teacher after school.

She might be or might not be in school.

But please.

Even if teacher is not in school, call for a sectional in the school.

Nobody says it's not allowed.

Remember for Sec 2 members and above, Please bring your FULL U including tie and shoes and socks to the photo taking on wednesday. Juniors, bring you band t. I know it's abit weird...
We are just taking the front side of the t-shirt... So is not that bad.

Ask the teacher's permission to let u off 20mins earlier to get changed.

The phototaking time is about 12 - 12.15.
So gather at 11.55 outside ava room.
Get out of the class about 11.35 or so.

Remember to get ready your uniform.

All right band, an urgent reminder,
for those who did not hear what i say today, or forgotten,
please meet tomorrow @ 10.30 Outside boots and shoes.

I hope majority of you can make it.
Reasons, i think and believe that it would be beneficial to
you guys on your road to getting a bronze.
Everyone is important in the band and to the band.
without everyone's cooperation, we can;t do much.

Okay. So here is what you need to bring to our Ubin Retreat 2008.

- Water Bottle (With water of course)
- Poncho aka Raincoat (It's a must. Available at all mama shop.)
- Extra clothings (Optional. If you want to change out from your smelly clothes.)
- Slippers (Optional. If you really insist on changing.)
- Money (About $10 - $20. We will travel the whole island by bike. So please bring $$.)
- Food (Optional. Some light snacks will do.)
- Plastic Bag (To keep all your trash)
- Sunblock (Optional)
- Insect Repellent (Optional. If you really not scare of the dengue virus)
- Cap (Optional. But the sun is sure big.)
- Personal items (Camera, Wallet, Mp3. Bring your valuables @ your own risk. We will not be responsible if your phone drop into the mud or got stolen.)
- Tissue paper (It's a MUST MUST MUST)
- Binoculars (Optional)
- Towel (Optional)

Please Note That:
- Attire for the day: PE top, any bottom like shorts or jeans. No SKIRTS. And please wear covered shoes.
- Bring a bag. It is recommend to keep all your stuff inside.
- Please have breakfast in the morning. We will only provide snacks like sandwich for lunch.

Time to meet, where to meet:
7.30am @ School Canteed.
Will dismiss everyone @ 6pm @ Christ Church.

For committee members, please report at 7am.
